Stephanus Van Cortlandt
First patentee of Sagtikos Manor
The beginnings of Sagtikos Manor go back to a royal patent granted to Stephanus Van Cortlandt on June 2, 1697, based on his 1692 purchase of 150 acres that became the first part of the estate. Town Historian material notes that Van Cortlandt was connected by family to William Nicoll, linking the Sagtikos story to the larger network of colonial landholding families.
